This man sued the school and proves his case well. This is how it is here in the U.S. How is it in the rest of the world? Do you agree or not?

I don't get it. The majority of the population is already freely choosing the soft option it's part of the reason why we've performed so poorly as a western world. We're swimming in fitness instructors, journalists and english literature students whilst reality is crying out for doctors, engineers and physicists. The norm is to freely choose something decadent and useless, maybe at one time you were forced into doing something materially resourceful but today the opposite is the case..

And the problem with calling everybody a genius is that you fail to make good on real genius by failing to respect it. The new antibiotics won't be found, the Mars base will be Chinese, fossil fuels will not be updated and it all adds up to a worse life for your children and world as dirty as it is sick.

Spare the rod, spoil the child. You salt the earth for all posterity by telling the thick kid he's a genius and building your education system around him.

Very artistic ... but he could have just dumped a copy of 'The Deliberate Dumbing Down of America' in front of each of the jurors and the judge!

Oh, hold up ... no that would work ... on account of most of America having being so brilliantly and thoroughly dumbed down !

But YES anyone can grasp the futility of judging a goldfish on it's tree climbing ability !!!!

My understanding is that students already never do the right thing and only do what makes them happy. In a choice between being John Salk or slobbing around in yoga pants they choose the yoga pants everytime. There's almost no sense at all of doing what is right or necessary and there's a very strong sense of doing what makes you happy until it all blows up in your stupid face.

I mean we don't want our schools to look like they do in China but there has to be some organisation, some sense of priority. The baby boomer's problem with authority ruined our schools but these problems you create - such as the great recession - contain the solution. A large portion of those 10-15 years younger seem to be awoken, there's a sensibility there which wasn't in those my age or my elders.

And not to sound like it's dooms day approaching, but the situation isn't very hopeful...
The problem number one is the parents, education starts at home and home isn't a very stable place today and parents aren't the greatest example for their kids...
Some kids are lucky to be self-aware from an early age, but many are inevitable result of a bad material...and "free range" upbringing...

And often the sense for what's right is well mixed with the sense of what's right for me and me only...
There is a lot of selfishness in what people see as "good" today...

No you can' t teach fish to climb trees each one of us is individual, true. But thick kids don't become geniuses, you can maximize what kids are capable of but push them too hard and you have another problem.
In the UK kids are streamed off at 11years old to determine what type of school they go to, The smartest to Grammar schools, the technical too technical schools, and the rest to secondary modern.
The university degree courses are good, going hack over A level to a Bsc in three years.

Mature students are encouraged so there is a second chance for all.

In this way the best brains are streamed to the best advantage for the country.

I disagree wit this libertard idea of treating all children the same, best will come to the surface, and should have be given encouragement. They are the life blood of our country.

I've warned about people turning into robots for over 20 years now, nobody would listen. I agree with this man.
We are learning the children just that what they need to know to work hard and earn money for companies and the country.
We don't care about what they want to do with their life, we don't care about their feelings.

Exactly this is the reason why I teach children how to play chess.
They can have some fun in their life, playing a good game of chess, and I hope they'll always remember me.
Sometimes, in the small village where I life young adults speak to me telling me they remember me from the schoolchesstournament I organize every year. So I know I did it all for that moment of fun in a kids life.

Absolutely, they must be taught in the way they learn. If you will read my post above, I shared my experience in teaching this way.

Hi Healthy Living!
I homeschool as well, following the Classical method of the Trivium.

My children rank higher than the local children in social skills and logic. While they may not know all of the useless information, for example in Ancient History, they have the ability and skills to learn anything they choose to learn.

They have developed their logic skills quite well and are able to solve most problems.

I applaude you in taking control of your situation.

wave Hi Kaylana! Good to meet you!
Yes, it has been proven that children who are homeschooled have a much better education and rank higher than those in public schools.

I will accept your applause as so many think I am crazy just for taking on these girls whom I have had since they were 7, at my age (64). We just must make the most of every opportunity. These girls needed a chance to succeed in life. They both came from single drug addicted moms, referred to me by the courts. Now, they have hope for a bright future and they have the love they deserve!

I want to thank you for your input in this thread. You make very good points in all of your assessments. I will comment on this one. I have noticed this for quite some time.

In the school system, graduates are encouraged, mostly pushed, to go to College. Society puts so much emphasis on going to College. Colleges are extremely expensive and many students are forced to obtain Student Loans to pay for their education. Many students have no idea what they really want to be so they major in the Arts. As you have mentioned, freely choosing something decadent and useless.

Those choosing to be Doctors, Engineers and Physcists would require much self discipline in order to really apply themselves to their studies and continue for the long term schooling. Some manage to complete the process and others slack off and either leave or pass with low gpa's.

I would like to point out that so many graduates who made the first choice above, can not find employment after obtaining their degree as the market is flooded with others who have come before them. They are forced into the workplace at jobs they are over qualified for and underpaid as well. Also, those Student Loans must be Repaid! They struggle and many suffer from depression.

Point 2 would be that ALL of the students have now sat under the Liberal Indoctrination of their Professors.professor Especially those who were "fortunate" enough to go to the "top" named schools such as Yale, Harvard, Princeton, Columbia, Cambridge, Stanford and the like. They have received their liberal programming along with their degree.

Could this be the reason why students are pushed to go to College? Made to believe they are lesser than their friends if they don't go? Because the establishment wants to continue to brainwash their young adult minds?

Food for thought,
HLwine
