I have never liked big cities even as a kid...I find them cold...impersonal and far too busy like everybody is on a treadmill and a timeline.....

Dublin for 10 years, and I really really hate it now. I'm now in a small town in limerick and the quality of life is so much better. I dont have as much money but that's not everything. Country life is not perfect, but I think its better than city life. People are just more relaxed.
I think what happens is that people are overwhelmed by all the people on top of one another in a city, and people become withdrawn into themselves as a defence mechanism. I found that about Dublin. If you weren't already part of a group, it was near impossible to break into knowing people.
