Here in Mexico you usually have to put your used toilet paper in a waste basket. They say it is because the drain pipes are to small and easily clog. It takes some getting used to for us American ex-pats. Oh well at least the garbage trucks run everyday here.
Apparently, the biggest problem for the folks who run the water treatment stations, is the paper combining with.....dental floss!! Who knew? As we all know, floss is virtually unbreakable, non-biodegradeable, and is generally a serious problem for filters, catchment areas, and disposal. I think everyone should use a bin, and not flush it.

The cleanest, most hygienic method to clean oneself is the bidet. A lot of people don't see the point, and use it to store cosmetics and shampoo in it...
There is a Scottish guy , a neighbour, here in Bulgaria, who owns a beautiful house but doesn't have a bathroom and toilet...he lived in this house for ten years now... I never asked him if that's a Scottish thing...
Where i live women flush tampons and other personal plugs down the toilet at home unless you’ve got a septic system. The motors stiring the shot up in them burn out easily after getting tangled up in feminine hygeine rags.
Anywhere i traveled in Russia and Ukraine i found myself in bathrooms where you dont flush tissue of any kind in the toilet and those waste disposal cans did not have lids and they appeared to remain full for some time.
Stinky and huge flies all over the place . I knew i was in troubke entering these toilet rooms if i saw tacky fly tape hanning in several places in the room.

I spend a lot of time in Cyprus, the older parts have the small bore pipes and you have to dispose of toilet paper in a basket. The hotels have our bore plumbing but the custom of binning paper exists still, even though unnecessary.

I was watching something on the news about wet wipes causing some huge problems for sewage systems in certain US cities. Apparently they don't decompose quickly like toilet tissue, instead bond together and form massive blockages, that are very costly to remove. Perhaps a dirty bottom is a small price to pay in exchange for a for a free flowing sewer system.
