PBS had a series called History Detectives and they take artifacts that the owner says have a history and the detectives find out if it is true. One guy bought a painting that was signed by Frank Zappa and he wasn't sure if he actually painted this painting of a fat bald guy surrounded by drums with an old boxer bell on the wall that was used to start and end rounds in boxing. They found Frank Zappa's last wife and she confirmed it was real and painted by Frank Zappa. The fat bald man (a very good friend of Franks) in the painting owned Frank Zappa's favorite music store and he was standing in the drum section of the store. The man in the painting died and his 2 sons now own the store. The bell is no longer on the wall but they did find it in a storage room (it doesn't work anymore). I really enjoyed this series. Unfortunately I can not find that certain show on YouTube.

Thanks for that Karl... I had no idea Frank painted, though I shouldn't be surprised... I was watching his first televised performance from back in the 60s when he appeared on the Steve Allen show, and even back then it was clear the world didn't know what to do with him... IMHO, FZ was the most articulate speaker in the world of music, a man who could take on all the political, theological and sociological detractors and beat them down with their own arguments... A rare thing in the world of art and entertainment, Frank would have made a formidable politician and I believe a credible president of the United States...
FZ in a late interview with a reporter from MTV, the tension in the air is palpable... Frank hated commercialism, he was his own artist, and by God he speaks it up in this one...
