mykingdomforanam: I leave my door open all the time, day and night, winter and summer, unless I plan on being gone from sunrise to sunset; and my stove is outside on the porch, so it doesn't warm my house at all.

I have a fan over my bed; and besides the 85 gallon tubs of rain water I catch from my roof, or clothes, those are the only forms of climate control I need.
Yeah, somehow id never think Hawaii homes would ever have a furnace.

galrads: I keep mine set at ~ 295 degrees Kelvin most of the time im home
There is no central heating in the house, consequently no thermostat.
Heating is by wood burning stove.
Average temperature is 17°c at its best, more likely to hover around 14°c
At 10° or below I would always light the stove, above that it depends on mood and time of day.

Some places in Hawaii need furnaces and fireplaces...

We have high elevations; and it can snow in any month out of the year.

If I was willing to live in a cold place: I'd leave Hawaii, and buy more acres in a different state, for less money.

I have a heat pump and a programmable thermostat. I also have a little wood burning box stove which saves a lot of money on electricity.

WINTER SETTINGS HEAT

WAKE 4:15AM – 65deg
LEAVE 5:00AM – 66deg
RETURN 6:00AM – 68deg
SLEEP 10:00PM – 64deg

SUMMER SETTINGS COOL Use as needed
Using INDOOR/OUTDOOR Thermometer, open all windows when Outside temp
Falls below Inside. When Outside temp rises above Inside close all windows.

My last electric bill was $37.93 the one before that was $31.49.
