I mean, I remember when you were loudly eating those airline peanuts on the plane we both happened to, by chance, be on together. It was like you hadn't eaten in days … Which was exactly why I snatched them and threw them into the cockpit.

The other day i ate out in a chinese resturant.and the tried to seat me at a table.i said no i want a booth so i sat down .they didnt bring me the tea and i felt really low.i ate my meal and didnt tip.i am sure i would of been treated better if i was accompied with someone..

What's crazy for me is that when my kids are gone, I feel awkward eating alone at home. My dining table is by my huge floor to ceiling windows... I hate it that the neighbors can see me eating alone. How do you feel about ordering that table for one?
In a restaurant, I don't mind because I'm usually on a job or waiting for work to be finished...
I enjoy people watching and also the solitude.
But at home? It's a different story....

I’v seen single people dining alone get treated as second class diners when couples are also present. Couples represent bigger fish to feed and bigger tips for same amount of time spent waiting on them. T.I.P. ... to insure promptness... no promptnous no tip.

That's interesting, because I often see it the other way... especially in a place where the single person is a regular. He gets special attention, he flirts with the servers, he leaves a bigger than normal tip...When I worked in the coffee shop 20 years ago, we relished the slower pace of the single regulars!

What i had in mind was more eating alone after working hours, dinner at a 'serious' restaurant, not a diner. In that context, a solo diner is more conspicuous. I don't know why, but a scene from 'As good as it gets' comes to mind. ??How do you feel about ordering that table for one?

There's effectively zero chance of going to a fancy restaurant by myself. Mcdonalds and the all you can eat buffet I'll be dining for the pure utility of converting protein intake into muscle energy, there's no need to book.How do you feel about ordering that table for one?
