Finland isn't socialist country, the Nordic model isn't socialism Tom...it may borrow some aspects of it but none of those countries is socialist...

Your right it is the Nordic model, and possibly closer to capitalism than socialism.
I would call it more socialist but your terminology is correct Finland is not socialist. Politically it is a democracy. Economically it is capitalist. In that sense it is the same system as the United States. Finland does have higher taxes and more generous public programs. But this is a merely a difference in degree. It is not a different kind of economic or political system.

Would much high taxes combined with greater public benefits work in the United States? Some would certainly support it, mainly those who would receive more in return than they would pay. But currently there is nowhere near the level of political support for such a move. Those who are wealthy think (rightfully so) that they have better uses for their money than the clowns in Washington do. And most others see themselves advancing in their careers and wish to enjoy the fruits of their labor one day. In a sense, hope and high taxes are not a good mix. Where there is hope, people want to provide for themselves, make their own decisions. Maybe this explains the unusually high suicide in Finland?

Any way back to the French problem.

No they didn't. They said they prefer Macron over Marie Le Pen after both came out closely ahead of a 4 way contest. And when it came down to a 2 way Le Pen lost by a margin of 3 to 1.

I dont see Le Pen changing that any time soon.

I agree, though the French will riot at practically anything as has been proved this year, this time they are justified.

For the less affluent, it’s a different story. This former investment banker has slashed housing benefit, and hiked taxes on pensioners – in a country where the average monthly pension is just €1,300 (£1,100). His policies have shifted the workplace balance of power from workers to bosses. French students are staging occupations and protests against more selective entry requirements for universities, derided as an attack on free universal education and France’s social model.

You could have copied and pasted it like you did the French one roll eyes

Anyway, it's less than £700 a month. So the French one is relatively generous compared to it.
