A bottle of 2 liters of quality lager in the shop is about 1-1.50 Euros, if you drink in a restaurant or pub a pint is about 1 Euro, depends on the make... Alcohol is cheap too, that's why many and especially North European tourists come here, and we are not happy about it...

sounds like reasonable prices there, we get taxed to the hilt here
PeKaatje: Tobacco is about 10 euro here for I think 40g. I don't smoke. People in my country, complaining should be glad they don't live in Ireland I guess.
Strange governments, making tobacco very expensive, but fast food is twice as cheap as healthy food, especially in restaurants.

aries1234: We pay abot a £1 acan in the supermarket, about £1.20 a pint can.
In the pubs it's about £3.50 a pint, but it varies around the country..
I don't smokeand don't like the smell, my girlfriend smokes but I'm working on that.
Here a pint is about 5 euro if you are lucky. In Amsterdam you can easily pay about 6 euro for a simple bottle of wheat beer in the pub, while in the store next door you pay about 70 cents. (That's 30 cl). But if the police sees you drinking in public you can get a penalty of about 140 euro.

Well, if you are unemployed, you get about 1150 a month. Rent about 700, health insurance about 110, gas and electra about 100, other insurances about 30, tv, internet and phone about 50, so you have about 40 euro a week to survive.
When you have a job that pays minimum wage you got about 1300 netto.

i'm on disability allowance each week, free meds, free travel pass, but im planning on winning lotto........
I quit cold turkey for 1.5 years ago. Saved ca 2300 EUR during this time (conservative estimate, as cigarette price went up a couple of times since that).
If someone wants to quit, but needs support and encouragement, I'd recommend whyquit.com site: great tool for smoking secession.

Ah that's a myth and used by lazy people as an excuse to get out of cooking a proper meal....
A T-bone steak costs about €4 (same for organic salmon) , a 2.5kg bag of pototoes maybe €3 at the most, a bunch of locally grown carrots €2 and broccoli the same....you could feed that to a family of four adults for about €25 a day and Tbone/salmon are the more expensive cuts of meat/here here. I don't know how much it would cost to feed 4 adults with a takeaway but I bet it's not far off, so it''s far from cheaper...not to mention far less nutritious...and no way near as tasty, particularly since Ireland can't be beaten for qualiity of food
