Conrad73: Theodore Roosevelt :

(Addressing the Knights of Columbus in New York City - October 12, 1915)

"There is no room in this country for hyphenated Americanism. When I refer to hyphenated Americans, I do not refer to naturalized Americans. Some of the very best Americans I have ever known were naturalized Americans, Americans born abroad. But a hyphenated American is not an American at all.

This is just as true of the man who puts "native" before the hyphen as of the man who puts German or Irish or English or French before the hyphen. Americanism is a matter of the spirit and of the soul. Our allegiance must be purely to the United States. We must unsparingly condemn any man who holds any other allegiance.

But if he is heartily and singly loyal to this Republic, then no matter where he was born, he is just as good an American as any one else.

The one absolutely certain way of bringing this nation to ruin, of preventing all possibility of its continuing to be a nation at all, would be to permit it to become a tangle of squabbling nationalities, an intricate knot of German-Americans, Irish-Americans, English- Americans, French-Americans, Scandinavian- Americans, or Italian-Americans, each preserving its separate nationality, each at heart feeling more sympathy with Europeans of that nationality than with the other citizens of the American Republic.

The men who do not become Americans and nothing else are hyphenated Americans; and there ought to be no room for them in this country. The man who calls himself an American citizen and who yet shows by his actions that he is primarily the citizen of a foreign land, plays a thoroughly mischievous part in the life of our body politic. He has no place here; and the sooner he returns to the land to which he feels his real heart-allegiance, the better it will be for every good American."

If we mention on human right , no one wrong to express what their believe as same as they must accept the opposite believe or opinion. Otherwise, they don't deserve to involve and need to get rid of too.

Ano751: One reason is:
No visa requirements to travel overseas
You have to have an E.S.T.A. and an electronic passport to travel to the UK. The same as I have to as a British Citizen travelling to America. Your E.S.T.A. lasts for 2 years and entitles you to stay for up to 90 days on anyone visit. Plus, you have to fill in a Customs form "which is a legal document" to hand in to security in the country in which you are entering. Customs can still refuse you entry into the country. I'm in America at the moment and have been interviewed in secondary immigration. in the past due to my frequent visits to America. They have all my information now so it's not a problem any.longer.applause

charles_nz: Most people from most countries are polite and considerate.

Having said that, certain national stereotypes do have some basis in fact......
I don't doubt that for 1 minute Charles. It's just that it seems to me personally that a lot of people have this "thing" about Americans. We all should be proud of our Country. I'm English but live in Spain. I can fly my Spanish Flag and my English Flag here without any problem. Try flying an English or British Flag in the Uk. You are told to take it down in case you are "offending" others. This is one of the reasons that I love America and Americans. They fly their flags everywhere, they even fly their flags of Ireland and are "free" to do so. As I stated, I have much admiration for Americans. They stand up for their Country and won't let anyone take that away from them............
