Olympus OM-D E-M1 Mark ii camera updated with version 2.2 update coupled with a M.Zuiko. Digital ED 300mm F4.OIS Pro lens (with 1x4 teleconverter) that has been updated with version 1.4 using Olympus update program.
I’m having issues with the camera to the extent that a new one is in the mail heading my way.

The camera is freezing, a black screen displaying MF appears while jammed, however manual focus is set in camera as inoperative. If I shake the camera it restarts auto focusing.

Yesterdays spent hours reading every entry in the latest after update 2.2 User Manual however I haven’t resolved the problem.
I understand (right or wrong) CAF TR only works using the mechanical shutter not the electronic shutter. In first instance I thought it was the stabilization (5 way) that had broken loose within the camera body, so went ahead and purchased a new camera on the strength of that thought.

Today I am not so sure it’s the stabilization that’s causing a clunk sound, and MF appears on screen in eye view, focusing frozen and black screen.

Can co-owners who can please offer assistance?

The olympus om-d e-m1 camera talks to the lens, the camera has extensive menus for customizing including functions like manual and auto focus. The lens i am using has built in stabilization, also it has a manual focusing clutch, which i don't use. Auto Focus is much faster and birds seldom sit around while you fiddle with camera settings.
The Manual Clutch on my lens is turned off in the camera, it is set as inoperative in the camera menu.
I only use Auto Focus, auto focus now with tracking, it also uses face detection that has eye detection that detects birds eyes to.

You can if you want easily look at the menu's in Olympus OM-D E-M1 Mark II camera using this link:

this is another link that may assist your understanding of the cameras ability

Maybe you should have got a Nikon coolpix P900 , non detach lens , 84 X mag . Mag something eles , facial recognition well over a Km , suits me as my little coolpix was putting me too close to the shooting .

Rob it sounds like a great camera if you have the knowledge of how to use it. Do you have a picture of the lens you used for your photos? They are nice photos btw.
