the twisted web thee weave

October 4, 1957, when the Soviet Union successfully launched Sputnik I
Sputnik II was launched on Nov. 3, 1957, carrying the first living thing into space: a dog named Laika
After Laika (who died), the Soviet Union sent two more dogs, Belka and Strelka, into space on Aug. 19, 1960. The animals were the first to actually orbit and return alive

The physical exploration of the Moon began when Luna 2, a space probe launched by the Soviet Union, made an impact on the surface of the Moon on September 14, 1959

The Soviets nonetheless remained in the lead for some time. Luna 9 was the first probe to soft land on the Moon and transmit pictures from the lunar surface on February 3, 1966.

No spin.... Luna 9 was unmanned ..... unlike Apollo 8 which was launched on December 21, 1968, and became the first manned spacecraft to leave low Earth orbit, reach the Moon, orbit it, and return. etc etc

I think the USA should have shared the cost and had a joint effort in venturing to the moon like potus John f Kennedy wanted. The moon exploration would have continued and everyone benefited from it it in many ways. Just my ho.

Right now it’s 37 degrees Farenheitht outside (2.78 celcius) it’s a no-snow Christmas here. I’m anxious to bring on the new year and get a long-delayed surgery out of the way in early February.

Are you looking forward to 2019 Ali.... any travel plans?
