It appears that text messaging between family members and close friends...who live some distance away...has become the norm since the advent of new apps???
Have people lost the skill of direct conversations (phone calls.. Skype..)?
I myself find a voice much more human and enjoyable than a soulless text...especially when sending special greetings to a loved one.
I prefer a call especially when faking the flu to avoid visiting family. If you're going to lie then you lie well, and that means lying to their face.

I prefer a phone call to a text.
Though having said that, I'm not one to hog the phone for hours. A meet is better....a chat over coffee or meal.
Texting short messages is handy for sorting arrangements to meet, and appealing for those hot little pick-me-ups with your significant other.

Wishing you all the best for the New Year Dan....
Hiya Berry
I was talking mainly about when family, or close friends, who live a long way away. Of course, I prefer a call to text messaging. I like to hear the voice of family members, even see them on skype as we haven´t seen each other for a long long time.
Think of those - like me in a way - who haven´t lived in the modern tech world for very long, and it wasn´t that long ago I could only be contacted by phone - or by letter.
My mother is a typical example (no cell phone, no internet, no email etc.). As for 2 of my sons, they have no cell phone and we can only speak on a landline phone.
Anyway, have a happy and prosperous new year Berry, wishing you the best year you´ve ever had - and good health for you and your loved ones.

Thank you Dan
Ahh those days of lingering round the mailbox, waiting for “that” letter from the postie....
M4_Mischief: when sending new years greetings it doesn't matter to me one way or another....
It doesn't matter to me either for acquaintances as I don't see myself phoning every contact on my phone.
But...apart from a couple of family members...I also have a couple of special friends who I enjoy talking to on Xmas day or new year's day unless we happen to meet and go out.

Throw away the tech, I say! We would all survive.
*she says as she types this from her cell*
Hahaha...I'm also typing from my phone and I'm getting quite dependent on it as it's the only phone I have at home and my internet is off most of the time.
As for letters...the only ones I still get are bills.

In my work I have to talk ALOT....so I much prefer texting or meeting them...I'm not a lover of talking on the phone or having it at my ear for long lengths of time. Its lazy yes but after a day of talking I'd rather spend the rest of the day in silence

Several times, I have had people come to my house for online auction pickups, and rather than knock on my front door (which is apparently too much effort) I get a text saying "I'm here".

Geeeeeeeesssssh..... what is wrong with people??
Hahaha...that's a good one!
Without their cell phone I guess people don't know what to do anymore.
