I actually don't mind . I tend to create a blog as a conversation starter but I don't follow it for days , or even weeks, as I wouldn't in a normal conversation.
Yours aside , most are pretty dull & most people never follow up their original statement, or question, which give people the licence to post something completely irrelevant to the question posted !

There is hijacking, which is a deliberate attempt to derail the thread.some people do mind
And then there is the natural course of human discussion, where the conversation gradually drifts further and further away from the original topic.
The two things are not the same, but sadly some people confuse the two.
