About people who travel to countries other than their own then get themselves into trouble by disrespecting the culture/smuggling drugs/falling off things while taking selfies etc

Embassies get involved in an attempt to get them out of their scrapes, GoFundMe pages put in place to raise $$$ to get their sorry arses back home

What do you think confused

The I really don't care attitudes, are mainly for people that had never had to carry any responsibilities. Life is a ball!!!

We had a recent death here of an Indian student who fell off cliffs whilst taking a selfie. There are warning signs all over that area to not get too close to the edge, not to mind walking backwards over it to take a selfie. It is sad when anybody dies or gets injured, but my sympathy for them is pretty low.

I read about the Canadian in China who tried to smuggle over 200 kg of drugs...and his death sentence debates...
If you are trying to make money by poisoning and killing people with drugs, expect to pay for it...
Governments should not interfere such cases unless they have solid proof of innocence ...

Most embassies won't buy you out of trouble now, when I was with the Finnish Embassy they would get you back to the UK but you had to pay it back.

"Michael Shields, 22, from Liverpool, was pardoned by the justice secretary, Jack Straw, on Wednesday after a lengthy campaign, despite numerous British and Bulgarian witnesses testifying against Shields...
Bar worker Martin Georgiev, a father of two, suffered a fractured skull when a paving stone was dropped on his head four years ago in the resort of Varna after Liverpool's Champions League victory.
Shields was jailed for 15 years by a Bulgarian court for attempted murder, which he denied. A campaign to free him was launched, supported by footballers and dignitaries including the Bishop of Liverpool, the Right Reverend James Jones. This week he became the first Briton convicted overseas to receive a royal pardon."

An old story that shows how hypocrite politicians and society can be defending a scumbag...just because he's "ours"

Falling off a cliff while taking a selfie is sad, especially for the one who falls. Same for that girl who sat out the window of a car going 60mph trying to capture her "fun" on camera and got hit by an oncoming vehicle.
Accidents will happen, common sense is needed.
As for the embassies, they'll do whatever they want, I don't care.

I don't have much sympathy either but in the case of the Canadian sentenced to death the issue isn't his innocence...the issue is he received 15 yrs and the prosecutor appealed the sentence as being too light and the Canadian received the death penalty....the issue the government has with the case is that in order for an appeal to be granted there must be new evidence and in this case there wasn't....that's why they are saying he was arbitrarily sentenced to death because they didn't follow their own law.....wine

"Capital punishment is a legal penalty in the mainland of People's republic of China, as well as in Republic of China (Taiwan). It is mostly enforced for murder and drug trafficking, and executions are carried out by lethal injection or gun shot. Although Chinese government is often lambasted by Western governments on this issue, capital punishment as a legal penalty receives overwhelming public support in China, and remains popular in many other countries in Asia, including Japan with 80% of respondents supporting the death penalty."

I see it's their law ...and they are following it...

Imagine it was your son, brother, father...

At the end of the day I'll always blame globalism a bit. It's cheap and easy to travel when it should be something you do carefully, people are not all that enlightened and it's cruel really to give them all these possibilities at low prices.

I see it's their law ...and they are following it...
"In Canada, though, Mr. Schellenberg has a history of drug trafficking dating to 2003, when he was convicted of possession of a scheduled substance for the purpose of trafficking, according to court records.

In 2010, he was convicted of drug trafficking again and sentenced to nine months in jail. Two years later, when Mr. Schellenberg was 29, he pleaded guilty to possessing about $4,500 worth of cocaine and heroin for trafficking purposes, as well as possessing cannabis and methamphetamines."

Seeing his criminal record what comes to mind is that your law isn't working towards reducing the crime...
And that's only the times he's been caught...

There's no excuse breaking a country's law and say you didn't know...
Especially when you do something that's a crime in your own country...

I am not saying that dead penalty is right, but if they decide it is... With his lengthy crime record and the amount of drugs found...
China is well known for its strict drug laws, why on Earth one would still try to fool them...
That's what I can not understand...
If you play with fire expect to get burnt...
Just think of the lives his drugs were going to ruin, kids, sons and daughters...mothers, unborn ones...

Well, one must be very, very stupid to do that in North Korea...
Or there's something else to add to the story...
hmmm
