ChesneyChrist: Another factor is the grandparents who die like cattle. The onset of the nursing home, youth seeing what its parents did to their parents changed the tone of family in the western world.
What do you suggest people do when they have a grandparent who has Alzheimers? Just live him in the house unattended? Not everyone can afford to hire a nurse or has the time to care for them.

I would argue that youth is a broken generation that has not been bequeathed a "path to happiness", and this worst life for your children will be make or break. The broken will either burst into pieces like a frog or harden like scar tissue.

Kids blame parents for any bad things they feel or the way they act because they are too afraid to take life on themselves. They are afraid to make their own mistakes so why not blame it on their parents for things that don't go right. "Gee Whiz, if I hadn't been damaged by my folks I would have led a perfect life". What idiots!!!!!doh

I'd have thought "cos they can" was about as Kiwi as it gets? Didn't Edmund Hillary say he climbed Mount Everest "cos it was there"?

bigjb62: Ezekiel 18:19-20 ESV
“Yet you say, ‘Why should not the son suffer for the iniquity of the father?’ When the son has done what is just and right, and has been careful to observe all my statutes, he shall surely live. The soul who sins shall die. The son shall not suffer for the iniquity of the father, nor the father suffer for the iniquity of the son. The righteousness of the righteous shall be upon himself, and the wickedness of the wicked shall be upon himself.
That Ezekiel dude sure likes the sound of his own voice. I'd hate to ask him for directions; there's no telling where you'd end up. uh oh

Prometheus1: Daniela and Bearwoman have it right. Until we take the responsibility to take the wheel of life in our hands we can begin to work on our wounds.
Many love to make excuses of their failings in life. Its the parents fault, the teachers and school system, its the politicians, the dog ate my homework, the cat peed on my homework. I was diagnosed with some kind of illness that would effect my entire life!! I was dropped kicked at the 50 yard line when I was baby!!
There are a multitude of excuses we can dream up and because our parents are the first exposure into this world we learn how to react and respond to that immediate environment. Genetic traits passed down from generation to generation can be a factor. The power to rise above our dysfunction determines our fate. We make choices good and bad alike yet, if we keep making the same mistakes over and over after being told over and over how to correctly do things do we blame the parents the cat the dog the weather or something outside of us?
After awhile life catches on and our BS catches up with us.
If only I knew this 35 years ago.
the vast majority of poeple are totally oblivious to themselves and the dents they have in their persona/charater etc...it's only when they have the benefit of hindsight that they realise they were damaged by something....and that they've gone through most of their life being the the product of their parents mistakes, errors, abuses..and also the good things too...that's why we need to teach young parents how to be kind, warm, affectionate and patient with their children...but still know where the line is......

It's impossible to rise above our dysfunction when we dont' even realise something inherent in our character is dysfunctional...

I am much older than most of you , and I can tell you when a lot of this has happened. I was in WWII, after my discharge I reenrolled in college under the GI Bill of Rights ( I had one semester in college before WWII) . There were a number of GIs enrolled and I heard many remark , " I've had to take orders for 3 years (some 4 years) and by God I'm not taking any orders ever again ". What do you expect from fathers with that attitude , it has proved the thinking had become the way of life , rather than to be proud their service was for the betterment and survival of our country. Negativism still prevails.

The betterment and survival of your country? I can't believe you actually believe that tripe....the US is nothing more than a global bully that goes around destroying whole countries.....just because it can...and it wants to....

idiotic gingositic thinking still prevails in the US...and probably always will when it comes to the US and how they see themselves and their role in global events since WW2...it's disgusting what they do and what they get away with..and every American that's taken part in any sort of war or invasion or supply of weapons to others have blood on their hands of comletely innocent poeple... that you and they seem proud of.....personally I find that kind of deluded pride breathtakingly abhorrent
