Oh, I don't know much about fighting planes, could have been some other type. I was there about 3 years ago. They're in Hanoi, in the north. But south isn't occupied, it's just one happy nation, love it overthere. Going back this summer.

I think you'll find the folks in the South weren't that "happy" in the mid 1970s to be over-run by communist invaders.
Of course, many people have been born since then, and know nothing different.

Well, Vietnam is doing great, the south even better than the north. In Hanoi I saw a street where there were a lot of stores selling bathtubs, toilets and furniture. All next to each other. Ho chi minh city is more a modern city. But the best city to travel to is Da-nang.

Vietnam is one of the few countries in Asia I have not visited - largely because it is one of the few countries in Asia that does not have visa-free admission for New Zealanders.

Maybe one day.
I’ve been to the North, Hanoi, Hai Phong, Cat Ba island and all around the area. Found it odd as a Canadian I too needed a visa. Will be headed to south Vietnam soon. I absolutely enjoyed my time there!

By the way, did you heard the dutch borderpatrol found 90.000 bottles of wodka, on a chinese ship, on their way to North Korea, and they think it was a gift to Kim Jong Un. Due to the sanctions they're now in Rotterdam, and might be sold overhere or they will be destroyed.

Mainly Phantom fighters, all told, the U.S. Air Force flew 5.25 million sorties over South Vietnam, North Vietnam, northern and southern Laos, and Cambodia, losing 2,251 aircraft: 1,737 to hostile action, and 514 in accidents. 2,197 of the losses were fixed-wing, and the remainder rotary-wing.

The American taxpayers wasted a lot of money on this, but the Military Industrial Complex got rich.
Let us hope that the USA's current drift away from global engagement continues.
