Google definition: A Debate is a process that involves formal discussion on a particular topic where opposing arguments are put forward to argue for opposing viewpoints.
The purpose of a debate is to express yourself and speak your heart out on a given topic. And you will get the opposition in your reasoning. The art of debating teaches you to prove your point, even if you get the contradiction. It tests your reasoning.
Some people say they like a “good debate”.... but... do they really?
Or... they are just seeking out people to agree with them?

I'm not sure if I should agree or not. I hate to be the object of a confirmation bias.
I like it when people do not agree with me, if they have thoughtful reasons why, because i learn something, but many have an opinion and no thoughts to back it up

Hello Marlin..
Yes...it's always interesting to hear someone else's point of view and...as you say...As long as they can back it up.
Otherwise...it is just an opinion and open to discussion.

What i find annoying is people who maneuver the suject away from the debate topic, to a subject which is different than the OP's but suits ttheir own agenda

Hi Tom..hmmm...that happens all the time..
Maybe they're just too lazy to write their own thread or blog?
Some people are ignorant to a thread subjects and I have had some of those on my threads before..I would say, that those who use profanity and insult others, are those who are on the end, of a losing debate...The things in my previous comment, are relevant to the thread subject and I tend to stick to subjects, that I am well educated on

Lee...usually "profanity" and "insult" are used by people who don't know what else to say and do not want to admit defeat.
It's seems to be easier to call Someone a...whatever... Than saying they don't know or admitting they are wrong.

The nicest possible way to challenge anything. Having a say is how free society legitimises authority but I think a no questions asked society is more likely now, Michael Jackson doing that so obviously in front of everybody the writing is on the wall for liberal democracy. The enlightenment was kidding itself, you can't fire a man who's doing a good job.
Debating is a good way of broadening ones mind as well as getting your own point over, which could change in the middle of the debate with a new way of looking at things.
Very few things in life are set in stone killing, etc.
marlindap: not one i have read, but i am sure it exists, I have to admit i rarely read anything because answers are not in other peoples lives or experiences.

Keeping ones mind open is good
Hello Red..
Yes..you're right...your thoughts and opinions on a particular topic could change in the middle of the debate?
But...it is not always accepted because you've already been "judged" right from the onset and most people won't see...or will ignore any other comments you make somewhere along the line.
