The story from the NZ herald is still making the rounds in independent media, was most likely reported on the day of the shootings.. about a muslin man that was armed at the second mosque which stopped that from being a bigger blood bath than it was, the muslin man fired 2 shots at the fleeing gunman who got away in a car with 2 other people.
They are saying that story has been taken down but you can still find the articule online, i haven't tried to look for it.
Also hearing NZ may have pissed off Israel with a UN resolution condeming Israel taking Palistinian land, who knows...

Yet almost all the worlds stories on this tragedy say the opposite, that he was an extremist right winger, acting alone, and that he changed after travelling to Europe.

I’m not sure where you are getting your information from, but that is false.

NZ is leading the way in policing and laying down laws for media/ video streaming, and hate speech to. I have heard of few people in court for streaming the shooting video and a couple of people being done for hate speech.
Gonna have to watch what we say now, might have the feds knocking on the door.

Hate rhetoric is rife on this site now, unfortunately.

Freedom of speech or normalisation of hate speech?

Tarrant is a right wing extremist. That is obvious.

He is what he is.

And this is how the "politically correct" commissars of what we can and can't say, get away with it........

Not to me, it's not.

Given that he has engaged in an action seemingly deliberately designed to create sympathy and support for immigrant and refugee communities, given that he has struck a blow against gun rights and against freedom of speech, and given various other statements he has made (such as praising Communist China) it seems to me far from certain where his loyalties lie.

Your views Charles.

Not mine and not fact, just conjecture.

I doubt whether the gunman massacred 50 people for your reasons stated. That is ludicrous.

Who knows?

Maybe he really did want to "strike a blow against Islam" as he saw it. If so, he failed spectacularly. Talk about an "own goal" !!!!!!!!! And frankly, he seems a person of reasonable intellect, so it is difficult to believe he couldn't foresee the outcome. But perhaps he was not thinking rationally? Killing anyone, let alone 50 people, is not the act of a normal or rational person, anyway.

But it would be naive to think that Jihadists (or government agencies) are not capable of putting together an attack like this. Not everything is always as it seems to be at face value. I'm a cautious person, and I do not like to rush to assumptions. I wish the mainstream media would do likewise.

Well, the man's not dead....a surprise in itself....usually these type of scenarios end in suicide(I believe there were 2 bombs in his car which were defused).

Perhaps, at some stage, Tarrant will give us more understanding of why.

At this point in time, I can only rely on the facts, as they are known.

Is there any info on his guns ? did he buy a new gun from guncity Christchruch ?
I think he had 2 AR 15s and 2 shotguns, don't know what 5th gun was.
I saw the magazines he had and they looked like 20 to 30 bullet mags, his guns would have been pretty hot after rattling off that many shots and the gun could start jamming up.
If he used a brand new gun it wouldn't handle the heat and jammed up, new gun needs to be run in like a new car.
