1) It tempers the enthusiasm of the unrealistically optimists and forces then to THINK about expected and united consequences related to their grand schemes
2) it allows the unendurably cheerful to feel useful by goading people who may be suffering real trauma from life events into feeling guilty about the genuine emotions grief ... this leads to sales of antidepressants and (probably also) increased suicides
3) If negativity is not expressed it becomes chronic, innate to the system and leads to deep personal misery
I could go on ... but essentially everything has the characteristics of yin and yang, good / bad , drk / light ... and often it just depends how you happen to look at 'whatever'
what we need is balance which is gonna contain a little of both...too far one way or the other and negativity takes over and positivity can lead to wilful blindness.....
