Imigration is legal through the Department of Imigration. If they are illegal the (legal term) through the department of Imigration is "Illegal Alien".
Refugee- is only for extreme cases, such as war.
Seeker.. and Migrants.. well fortunately we don't hear that in the USA. (No open borders) Unless people are on the far Left and using "Down play, word play, trying to get their way"
Change the deffinitions and you change the mindset. Keep the deffinitions and you keep the law.
mykingdomforanam: How many people who are against immigration, are immigrants?
How many people's immigrant ancestors were subjected to being separated from their children, and imprisonment?
The standard for border security isn't the same as our grandparents were subject to.
All of this fear mongering is part of the New World Order.
As long as we're willing to lower standards for the way we treat them... We're lowering the standard of our own rights!
When our world was free...
We didn't need any passports!
After WW1, which was for freedom, most accumulated wealth in the world, was transferred to a few people; and our ability to travel was restricted.
Before 911, I was able to travel all over Mexico, Jamaica, and Canada, with a birth certificate.
After 911, we couldn't leave America without a passport!
The new laws didn't do a thing to prevent undocumented people from coming to America!
The new laws only forced us to need more documentation.
Donald's wall is for keeping "government property" from escaping.
Just like the Berlin Wall.
By giving into fear of others, we only harm ourselves.
i am pro legal immigrations. all four of my grandparents were legal immigrants and worked their tails off for averything they owned. they never asked for anything and they served in the u.s.military during both world wars.
galrads: Did you get a job in Ireland and become an asset or did others lay for everything you wanted? I’m pro immigration if you do it according to the rule of the land and work to pay your own way. Take the USA for example. We are a land of laws. We csn not pick and choose which laws we will obey. It would be chaos if we could and did live like that. Most people able here pay to support our infrastructure. So, why should we allow people to be here if they disregard our laws entering. If they they, why wouldn’t they disregard any law here? And how can we assure they will be an asset. If people are struggling in their own country they should work on making their lives better there like the founding fathers did here. The USAs founding fathers faced hanging fir treason if they lost their revolt. So why don’t people in other country’s that are suffering do the same?
Of course I paid my own way, I'm not a sponger living in the backs of others...

Very few people are either "pro immigration" or "anti immigration".
That is far too simplistic!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'd like to see a lot more immigration into my country. But of people who share the ethnicity and cultural values of the people already here. Sadly, most of those the government is importing, are not.
A few white business men overthrew our kingdom with guns against spears.
Our Queen was forced to choose between seeing all the warriors surrounding her get slaughtered, and giving up her throne.
She appealed to Woodrow Wilson; and he tried to get the Europeans to give back her kingdom...
But while it was going through US courts, he lost the next election.
Our kingdom is still going to the Hauge, and never signed any treaty with the United States; which makes everything America did in Hawaii, illegal... By America's laws!
As an immigrant, I've been treated with so much Aloha: I've adopted the culture I live in.
Most Europeans can't inegrate into any other society.
They change place names, and restricted other's languages; because they were too ignorant to learn them.
As long as Mexicans don't insist we speak Spanish, and Africans don't insist we speak Zulu...
They won't ever be half the intrusive a**hole European American's have been.

We finally have something we can agree on.
I am familiar with the history of US-occupied Hawaii, and am well aware that the occupation and acquisition of Hawaii was clearly illegal in anyone's book. Indeed, even the U.S. government has admitted as much. It is a tragic story. Although what is done is done, and can hardly be undone now.
You are very fond of insulting and abusing New Zealanders. But the fact remains that, unlike Hawaii, the European colonizers did at least acquire this territory legally, from the previous occupants (the Maori, who were earlier colonizers - not indigenous as is often falsely claimed).

Look closely.
The only insulting thing I thing I ever said about New Zealanders; was pointing out, you're one of them.
I can understand why that'd be taken as an insult by most Kiwis.
If everybody got their DNA tested, they'd realise what a mishmash they comprise of. Since the beginning of time, people have travelled, moved, traded with, invaded, colonised or peacefully moved to other areas. That is how ideas, inventions, produce etc came to be shared. I think inward and outward migration is good, but I do also believe that it is important for the newcomer to respect the culture and ways of the host nation. I think it is important to learn the language also as you will never be part of the community unless you do so.
