I think english most have become the most important language through pop-music. Bands like the Beatles and the Rolling Stones, Elvis Presley etc. They all song in English and they were the most popular. And beside that English is quite easy to learn.

Actually, American English is a minority language, Standard English is still the most widely used worldwide.Sadly the use of American English is increasing, due to its simplicity, easier to learn than correct standard English.
British English is still the preferred language in India and China, the two most populated countries in the world, as well as most of Europe.
Having said that, it won't be long before Mandarin becomes the world's dominant language lol.

I suppose Britain won the moral victory because we were the first to stand up and didn't get any reward for winning the war. The biggest thing ever done in the history of Britain and dead in the water by the end.
The Russians suffered immensely but claimed half a continent.
And the Americans may not have suffered that much but the entire new world was better off 80% of the time. It took more for them to come down to the rest of us; the American self-help spirit set aside just enough to realise that you are part of this world. They ended up making a fortune from doing so - inherited the British empire that blessed America for decades to come they could live like Kings without being very much help to themselves - but it was never certain that they would help us in the 30s and 40s. They didn't have to.

It would be a brave man who could seriously claim that the UK emerged from WWII in any way "winners".The country was bankrupt, the Empire was lost, and Britain's standing in the world for forever gone.
The only country that really won was the Soviet Union (and they lost a lot too). It could also perhaps be argued that Israel emerged a victor, in a sense.......
