Google: Copper and arthritis. ... Sellers claim that tiny amounts of copper rub off the bracelet onto the skin, which absorbs it into the body. They claim the copper helps regrow joint cartilage that has been lost because of arthritis, which helps cure the ailment and relieves pain.
Can anybody produce proof of this claim or is it just another Old Wives Tale?

Somebody is making millions here! Should they be?
I don't believe it! I have lived in houses with copper pipes for water supply for most of my life and I still got some arthritis. Like most stuff it is bogus! The only thing that helps is exercise.

Thanks a lot for a very decent answer, and looking at it that way, it IS an Old Wives Tale... Anyone with proof otherwise?
Exactly... throw a load of copper at a person riddled with arthritis & they would soon be cured & maybe he could sell his story to the tabloids, on how he was cured & was able to run a marathon the following year because someone had rubbed some copper on his aching limbs !

You don't need to make any claims, or prove anything.

Quite a lot of people use these bracelets, and quite a lot of people believe in them. Why are they then so popular, if there are no proof, that it actually works? It appears to be something that people need to believe in to get them through the arthritis.
Hello smiley , if it makes people happy, and if it helps some people , why not. Everytime I glance at the TV , theres another new pill that's supposed to help arthiritus pain If copper gives some that peace of mind , I have no problem with that/

I totally agree. It might actually work like a placebo. If you believe in something, sometimes it comes true for you!!!
I've worked as a commercial plumber all my life, and went home with green hands more times than I can count.. I can tell you that copper never gave me anything except an arthritic back, and hips.. Now it's in my thumb..
Hey, I wonder if they make one of those copper gimmicks for your thumb??

Hi there. Long time no see. You get different colour copper rings, in one. I just gave my son one the other day, not that he has arthritis, it's just pretty. These rings can be made to size for you. Someone said the other day that they lived with copper pipes. I think most of us have, so I don't think its for ingesting but to just wear against the skin, and that then goes green, just to be washed off with soap and water. Maybe it is for absorption against the skin only.
FWIW Rather than using Cu Bracelets etc that have little or no effect on RA pains, the more positive help for sufferers of Rheumatoid arthritis are Heat Therapy treatments, and various over the counter Analgesic, Rub On Heat ointments & balms that contain Ibuprofen, such as Deep Heat (in the UK) and there must be other similar products worldwide.
