I was 4 when my mom bought me, The Jungle Book and Rikki Tikki Tavi, in one book.
I read them over and over.
I came to Hawaii, so I could have a pet mongoose...
I was very disappointed to learn we can't keep them here.

When I was in High School (South Bronx) my social studies teacher was discussing the "Courage of Fear" and asked who in the class ever read Rikki Tikki Tavi, I raised my hand and looked around and realized I was the only one with his hand up. I thought OMG what am I doing here?I read them over and over.

In college my professor gave us a list of books to do a book report from...I already read all of the books on his list, most of them before I was 15.
I wiped out mini book reports on them, and a real book report on, The Book of 5 Rings.
I don't remember how many times I read it...
I got to skip a grade; and if I wasn't a minute late for two classes, I'd'a gotten an A+ in English.

That's what I thought, when I told a bunch of 13 year old friends, I wasn't "enthused" to do what they wanted... Everyone looked at me like I was an alien, and said, "enthused!?!?"
They even jumped me, for "thinking I was better than them."
That's when I began learning how to dumb down my vocabulary.
Something I still do, in most circles...
I speak a few dialects of English now, and let others set the tone and level of our conversations.
