We choose what we wish to reveal.

I haven’t divulged too much to my children, though if I’m asked, I’m honest with them.

If I’d told them everything, it may have harmed the good relationship I have with them.

It’s my history. I choose what and whom I give it away to.

Friskyone: Is it ever a good idea or healthy reason for the relationship, to keep a secret from your partner/husband/wife?

If so, what would you consider a secret not to be revealed?
i think it's good to take one's time in what they reveal as a relationship develops. one's past is in the past. however, in an existing already committed relationship.... being secretive is putting up walls to keep your partner separate.

i think there's a difference between privacy and secrecy. healthy partnerships have a level of transparency and acceptance. secrets can prevent folks from developing that deep trust developed through honesty and intimacy.

i also think folks make their own 'rules' for a relationship. if both partners are comfortable with keeping secrets in the now...so be it. but if one or both partners' secrecy (not privacy) is negatively effecting the relationship, and preventing any real vulnerability, i would question the loyalty to the us. i certainly don't mean every single thing needs to be shared. i think folks know, or feel the difference when they are in service to an us, or service to a self.

sometimes folks want the convenience or benefits of a being in a relationship, without actually being in one.

Hmmm I didn’t read the thread header correctly.

I answered in terms of my children.

Agree with much of what you say Jono.

In regards to a potential partner, it takes time to build trust before we open ourselves up completely. It’s a process and for me personally, I like to know a man fairly well before baring all. blushing

The question is:
Are all of you revealing secrets, in this thread?
