My local Chinese are still open during climate change, and if it gets icy they're doing free delivery, so I should be fine

Writers and philosophers have been saying “ the end is near” for well over 2000 years...I’m not a fatalist...I believe it’s very important to be environmentally conscious, and live our lives accordingly. The last fifteen years of my life have been so medically challenging (I’m lucky to be alive) plus SO many situations and concerns, I admit that it’s just a little hard to worry too much about things beyond my control—so because I live in a pristine forested coast region, I embrace the “carpe diem” philosophy and have been (cross fingers) successful in carving out the rural-semi-rural way of life that is conducive to my needs and personality. Not to seem or sound cynical, but one less toilet flush or one or two recycled cans/jars are not going to save the planet. Sure, we still must try...I’m all for it, but look around you. Think about it. JMO..teddybear

I have never been to Coo Bay... but I have been to Oregon... I drove from Utah through to Portland. I spent a few days with a friend and his family. It was exceptionally pretty... we still laugh that when we went to Mt St Helens he looked around for me and I had climbed a small fence and I was in a garden on my knees. He looked across and asked me what I was doing, and I delightfully exclaimed " there are bumble bees in here". I was taking photos. laugh

As for the topic, I agree we should be environmentally conscious ... we should stop bringing things into our homes just because we have been shopping... in fact, stop seeing shopping as a pastime altogether and make it what it should be... something that is necessary. We should recycle, make healthier eating choices, sleep well, use less chemicals...but these things should be naturally integrated into our lives.

I also believe that we should have healthier conversations and robust discussions... but standing on pedestals shouting that have all the answers... everyone should drop everything and pay attention to you- that I struggle with.

By the way, after I visited my friend who lives in Washington... not Oregon, even though we first caught up for lunch in Portland... he bought a land and did everything he could organically. I have a lot of admiration for his choices in life...but more, I have a lot of admiration for who he is as a person.

Sorry to hear of your medical challenges. bouquet

I agree that we need to have healthier conversations and robust discussions- I’m also aware that I can come across as auto-cratic. Don’t know exactly where that might come from, or why, but I do “own” it. It could be that things that work for me seem to “fit”, and be appropriate, and thus I’m baffled that someone else WOULDN’T—I do realize that can be faulty thinking and that others have just as much right to see and do their way—I’ll work on it, because I instinctively know how important independence is. A partial very military childhood factored in, —-just giving a few facts, not trying to make excuses.teddybear

That's an interesting state of awareness... I often feel we judge based on our own paradigms... but to be in a healthy space, we have to sit back and be empathic to other opinions.

The military would affect that a little, but there is an upside to the military background as well... I often find people in the military to be respectful and courteous.

We live in a world where people aren't perfect but often believe they are close. smile
