Should parents be held accountable and punished when their kids ditch school (truancy)?

No, cause once the child goes in the school the parents is thinking that they child is in school,
you can’t be around a child 24-7, that makes no sense that the parents is held accountable

Not initially. Once the parents are made aware that their children are skipping school, then the responsibility should fall on the parent to make sure that child/children understand that there will be consequences to skipping school. It's not the school's responsibility to ensure their children attend, either.

That is true, we can't be around 24/7 but some schools actually do hold parents responsible. Doesn't make sense to me.

True, the school cannot ensure that the kids attend but neither can parents, some kids don't listen to their parents and some parents don't even discipline the kids either.

Agreed. That's where consequences some into play. Loss of privileges, allowances and every other avenue available to the parent, ot guardian. I'd bet anything, that eventually most kids will get the point?

Kids these days don't have respect, morals, etc. Nothing like back in the day. The kids just dont give a *uck. They will go to any extent to do what they want to do or not.peace

they both should be....there should be consequences for the kids don't attend and also for the parents who don't ensure their kids are attending....you cant be with your kids 24/7 but once you find out your kid is not attending there are things you can do like call the school each day to make sure your kid is there and if they aren't ensure there are consequences....wave

Yes within limits. It's not the main reason why the new generation are better than the last 3 - I reckon that's because of the great recession. The people become de-spoilt - but without a doubt the schools are better than they were 10, 20 or 30 years ago since they started fining parents and clamping down hard.
