It's always funny to read comments from the right demonizing the left about "handouts and socialism?" Yet somehow when the richest Americans get handouts/welfare for the rich, in the form of billions in tax breaks, or farmers and oil companies get billions in subsidies, or even the fact that blue Democratic states contribute more in Federal taxes (donor states) that actually go towards subsidizing red Republican states, which are more federally dependent, they put their heads in the sand?
Kaybee50: indeed I have. I've lived overseas as well.
Have you been to Indonesia?... Smiling Customs officers greet you at the airport and give you a kilo bag of cocaine at no charge!.. They then take you on a sightseeing tour of the local court house where a panel of judges arrange free board and lodging at the exclusive Korabokan Hilton for 15 years, after which you will be flown in your own personal jet to a private tropical island where you will meet your personal firing squad... This package deal comes with a free coffin and return flight to your country of origin. Must be good, as there has never been a single complaint!.. Yes indeed, very friendly people the Indonesians.

Well, we have a saying in Holland: France is a beautyful country, it's a pity that there are French people living there.

Yeah, well what do you expect, it's a muslim country. Last year a christian woman who lived there complained about the yelling when the mosque opened, she was send to prison I believe. (sorry, don't remember reading what finally happened to her)

Yet when I visited Jakarta and Bali I found the local people very friendly, I was invited to a wedding that was taking place near by, had never been to a Muslim wedding, found it fascinating, they even invited me back to the “reception” treated me like one of the family, yet I had only met them that day. How people treat you is more about how you treat others, and what expectations you set. Rather than a race or country.

I have traveled to many many places around the world from China, Thailand, Tahiti, Honolulu, all of Europe, UK & US (x4) & more, and the rudest people I came across were in France..
In the US the people were the nicest.. and kindest, most respectful people I came across.. They were ALL lovely and sweet to me.. and I was traveling on my own 90% of the time..
I think if we follow the customs off the country we visit all will be good, holidays are different to actually living in a country too.
My visit to China I will never forget, although our group had a courrier, we could not stay from our learning trip, we were welcomed and with courtesy at every corner. The cleanliness of the streets truly shone.
