Bandit_Geezer: There never was any such thing. People saying whatever they want in any media has almost always come with consequences. There's always been a price.
A lot things comes with consequences but it doesn't mean we don't have the right to freedom of speech. You are right though, some people even lose their lives over it.

We have a leader of a political party here that is backing freedom of speech and also hate speech, i don't know if his bill will past through parliament or get any traction.. it maybe a ploy to get voters in the next election. But i do see some points about free and hate speech, its better to let the haters have a say without being punished.. rather than give them no say, if they have no say then they will bring actions in to speak for them and we all know where their actions lead to. As for media here they just do their job and are payed well to put across the western narrative.
Freedom of speech doesn't mean you're entitled to a platform. Aren't right-wingers supposed to be the "free market" crowd? So why all the whining and complaining, when companies pull their sponsorship, or deplatform commentators/right-wing pundits, because they don't want their products/services associated with the terrible messages many of them tout on air, on a daily basis?. Hey, you can still say whatever you like, you just don't get a paid platform to do it.. Deal with it.
It's also funny to hear people speak about "hurt feelers" regarding Hillary, when Trump and his flock mention Hillary what?... all day, non-stop, 24/7? And she's not even in office? She's an irrelevant private citizen. And we rarely see or hear her making any public statements about Trump with any regularity, even though she could. What gives? It's almost like that lil ole lady, as centrist and corporatist as she might be, has more cojones and sense than the Trumpsters. Projection at it's finest. Trump won but still he and his followers act like the losers.
M4_Mischief: everyone has a right to say what they choose but they are not free from the consequences thereof.....
pointless unless you can specify the exact types of speech that are not allowed under the law
Our attitude to free speech in the West worked for decades. It is only since the Left has started to lose ground to Populist forces that the losing Left has resorted to attacking free speech. It is a dangerous tactic and one that is likely to end in failure
well if you don't know then good luck with lawsuits...slander...liable and hate speech charges.....you don't have the right to spread lies about people that can harm their reputation or you're gonna find yourself charged with slander or liable and possibly being sued...you don't have the right to spread hateful propaganda about people or you're gonna find yourself charged with hate speech....those are just some of the consequences....

ignorance of the law is no excuse....
You didn't specify the laws you were referring to in your previous post. Very dangerous 'hate speech laws' have been creeping into society recently. Dangerous precisely because they are vague in nature, and open to interpretation(which should NEVER be the case when it comes to law). Open to interpretation means open to being misused. And when individuals in society can be targeted as a result of some bogus interpretation of some vague 'hate speech' law, then we are in SERIOUS TROUBLE INDEED. You may have heard of the phrase 'the road to hell is paved with good intentions', and this translates perfectly when it comes to hate speech laws. They 'sound' nice when looked at on the surface, but dig a little deeper, and you will understand that they are fundamentally evil and they only guarantee persecution and tyranny. When it's a choice between persecution and tyranny, and having to put up with some speech that you may find offensive, i'm choosing the latter every time.
Friskyone: Does the right to free speech still exist in the media?
What is your opinion on what the future holds on this issue?
With rights come responsibility.
Should one have the right to hate speech? Should one have the right to incite hate and bigotry?
Generally us in the west have vibrant and open debates , conversations and viewpoints in the media which I appreciate.
I like hearing and reading different slants on a story. That is needed to make up one's own mind.
If you only listen to one side always, you will never understand where the other is coming from. We don't have to agree with a viewpoint to understand it.
what about just regular people...these laws are in place for good reason.....everything isn't about politics and a vague law always gets interpreted via the courts....that's what case law is all about....with anything free you always have the a**hole who try to hide behind free speech so of course there has to be some protections in place for those who it injures in some way.....
