Good morning, Joanie. I have to go see if I have any chickens left this morning. I had to turn them loose after being in the pen for a week. I have to figure out how to keep them alive during this winter. I am hoping that this winter does not get cold as last winter. So far the hens have not been able to hatch the golf balls.rolling on the floor laughing

Hey, Lilly has your schnauzer ever been around chickens? So far I have discovered that mine is a good turtle retriever but it wasn't much of a challenge so he got bored. Rabbits just piss him off because he isn't fast enough to catch them. He loves to chase the chickens. He hasn't hurt one, yet but he sure enjoys chasing them all over the yard. The little spitz female that I was given intimidates him. She thought it was a schnauzer. He likes to herd them. I think he just doesn't know what to think of them because he has never been around chickens. I know if he pisses off the big Rhode Island Red and the Banti rooster at the same time they are going to let him have it. It has turned into a science project for me.rolling on the floor laughing

Oh, I know what you mean about the Rocky. Mom had one when I was growing up that took on our hound dog. Rockies like to go after a dog's nose. We had to bandage the dog's nose but he never chased any more chickens. I have noticed two big crows this morning and have been looking to see even any chicken hawks come by. I have been told to cut down the amount of roosters since I have nine hens and eight roosters. My schnauzer is a great watch dog because he will bark a lot when a stranger comes to the door but he isn't a good guard dog because once they come into the door he runs and hides behind the couch.

OMG Roy they are chickens! Roosters are useless unless you want to hatch more chickens. Nine chicken and 8 Roosters!! are you mad ? You're breeding a hostility farm. There is only so much of a rooster that any one chicken can take. Those bossy arrogant little c*ck are unbearable. It's a wonder the chickens have not turned on you for keeping so many roosters. Tis a wonder the roosters are not tearing each other apart too! You either need to get more chickens or axe a few roosters....Bad Roy...very Bad!

I thought so, too. I am planning to keep the Rocky and the Banti roosters. I am thinking of frying up the Homburgs. I never heard of a Homburg chickens before anyways. I was hoping to trade some roosters for some hens but so far no takers. Yeah, I am glad I let them out. Nature might do some choosing for me in the survival of the fittest. Would be nice to have some farm fresh eggs.
