we have all been on holiday ,,,so my question is this ,,do you go all inclusive and never move from the hotel ,,or half board ,,and still feel restricted some what ,,or as I always do which is bed and breakfast ????
I just secure a room for the duration. What I do and when I do it is my own concern. I don't lock myself into somebody else's regimented schedule when I'm on my own vacation time. I do that enough for work.
There's "Holiday" & "Vacation". Most Americans vacation, they usually pick a peaceful spot and stay there (by the sea, in the woods). With the country being so big.. there is so much to see and the world being as it is.. we rarely leave the country. Just in my state (the most water logged in the union), there are streams, rivers, the bay (which is huge), the sea .. also mountains, farms, woods, as well as the Metropolitan (museums, concert halls, sport statiums, historial sites, restaurants). If I go ONE state away.. it is a vacation and they are speaking a different dialect. And will probably ask you were you were born (because you talk funny)

Right. Things that are common here, if I ask for them one state away, they look at me like a monkey doing a math problem.
About 30 years ago, I went with my roommate at the time to her (yes, my roommate was a 'her') best friend's wedding in lower Michigan. We stopped at a gas station/convenience store in Grand Rapids, and I asked for a box of potato chips (something common around my area -- two bags of chips packed into one box....inexpensive).
They looked at me like I had three heads. They had never HEARD of anything so ridiculous as a 'box of potato chips'!

I want the time I get out of bed to be my decision, but I go all-inclusive sometimes. You don’t have to be chained to the hotel or the buffet - you can use the services as much as you like, not necessarily as much as you can.
In the winter best deals are for all inclusive, I can not spare more than two, three days away from work so these offers are best for me... Shorter but frequent holidays are what I like...and indoor swimming pool is most important when looking for a deal... I am not stuck in the hotel just because I have free food tho...
Bladewound: Right. Things that are common here, if I ask for them one state away, they look at me like a monkey doing a math problem.

I guess asking for a tin of chips, would classify as terrorism.
Soda, soda pop, soda water, Coke, cola, Pepsi (People are territorial over brands) Hoagie, Sub, Cold cut (sandwich) .. always makes me laugh
Bladewound: Down south (Alabama, etc.), every cold drink is a Coke. Doesn't matter if it's lemonade, sweet tea, whatever. It's a Coke.
True. And if you specify you'll probably hear "Mountain Dew". I heard many laughs asking for ginger ale or Sprite. There's the root beer and birch beer controversy too.
Some things, I can't buy here at all.. a grinder (baked sandwich on a long roll), a soft pretzel, Tasty cakes, pork roll, scrapple
