Puerto Rico Protest Against Governor Rosello
A major protest is scheduled in Puerto Rico (one of the USA's 14 territories) today against Governor Ricardo #Rosello, demanding he resign after his Telegram chat messages were leaked.
The protest will take place at 5pm ET at the Governor's mansion in old San Juan.
Today's protest is set to be the LARGEST yet in a SERIES of protests against Governor Rosello, which began after messages from a private Telegram chat involving the governor were released last Thursday. In the chat, which also included government ministers and others connected to the government, Rosello used profanity and mocking language to attack a number of targets including political opponents, journalists, the entertainer Ricky Martin, an obese man he'd taken a photo with, and others. Protesters are upset not only with Rosello's chat messages, but also with government corruption and ineffectiveness under Rosello.
Puerto Rican rappers Residente and Bad Bunny have called for Puerto Rico residents to participate in today's protests, and protesters have adopted the hashtags #RickyRenuncia ("Ricky resign") and #RickyRenunciaYa
(Ricky Resign Already").
The scandal is being called #chatgate and #Rickyleaks
