Like most people I've been burned by men and burned by so-called women friends.
I have a friend on CS who lives in Canada. If we lived closer together I'm sure we would be bestie friends. Right now we have a good cyber friendship. I'm satisfied with that.

Ignoring the inevitable TDS and back on topic, I've lived alone for the most part since widowed. Yes, had some friends who stayed in their time of need.
I most miss the quiet time, snuggling in a cold Colorado bedroom till falling asleep. Waking and sharing the sunrise. Coffee for me, tea for her. Differences make for decades IMHO.
After a while, there is really no need to fill up a vacuum with words.
So yes, I can get by, even in my sleep. I do miss what I've lost. I rather doubt at this late stage, all of us being halfway damaged, that it will happen again. So I spend a lot time traveling. If you stay busy, you don't notice what you are missing.
