Columbus's landing led to the settling of the Americas, North and South, by Europeans. The people living here at the time weren't doing much. The Vikings came before him but did nothing permanent. Before that there were several waves of invasion from the west ending with a Chinese Fleet. Personally I do not think the Bering Straights had to be high and dry for the north crossing; even during the Ice Age people like the Inuit could live along a frozen coast on fish. Also, why do we believe the Polynesians stopped at Hawaii? There is really no telling what transpired down south while South America and Antarctica were connected long ago. The DNA tests are still being evaluated. Who can be called indigenous Americans?
