When a state does have it, on the books, the laws and exceptions are so strick, that it rarely happens. Even for treason the penalty can be as leanant as 4 yrs (Obama era).
Currently it exists in 29 states. The USA is one of 54 countries that apply it.

Why Did the U.S. Government Purchase 30,000 Guillotines?
– The use of guillotines for “governmental purposes” was lobbied for and passed in the U.S. Congress– The information we received is that 15,000 are currently stored in Georgia and 15,000 in Montana– Are the beheadings by muslims today meant to condition and desensitize us against U.S. Government beheadings in the future? If Georgia was planning to utilize guillotines as a method of execution, how could this be carried out without purchasing guillotines?
Even Snopes site says there are at least 15,000 guillotines in the USA

To my surprise 'the method of execution is optional' and if a state does not have it, a judge can choose a state that does.
SOME THOUGHTS TO PONDER ...
So, when should it be? For what crimes?
Should a convict sit on death row for 7 years and have the right to an appeal?
Should law abiding citizens and taxpapers, pay for their private cell, TV, weight room etc.
Should there be "an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth?"
Should some or all executions be public? Or optional for the victim's family?
Do you think the death penalty is a deterrent or justice or closure or barbaric?
Should private prisions be abolished?
Should prisoners be released early due to over crowding (and elections)?
Should transvestites and transgenders be "housed" by their choosen "gender"?
Should guards and staff be the same "gender" as the inmates?
Should the law abiding citizens and taxpapers, of each state have more say as to the death penalty and what amenities a convict can have or should it be up to politicians or nationwide?
Should the means of execution only be by "letal injection"?
