California, Colorado, District of Columbia, Hawaii, Maine, New Jersey, Oregon, Vermont and Washington State have all passed Bills to allow a person to end the life of someone who is suffering with a horrific illness.
There are parameters that have to be met before it can be done. The husband and wife in this story followed all the rules but it didn't go as planned.
secretagent09: Does anyone have an opinion on the story of the wife and husband's agreement to end their lives because of illness.
Do you agree with what they wanted to do or is it completely against your morals and religion?
Do you think people should suffer until the end?
I think it's a beautiful love story of courage and dignity.
Why suffer anylonger when you're terminally ill? I would want to do the same!
I certainly don't see it against morals. As for religion..well..to each their own belief.
As for the wife failed suicide..well..things do go wrong at times. But being charged for murder/manslaughter because she survived? That's ridiculous!!!!

I agree with you Dani. These people had doctors to verify that the husband was terminally ill and was suffering.
I'm beginning to wonder if the reason states don't want to pass a Death With Dignity act is it might have something to do with doctors and hospitals running up medical bills.
The pharmaceutical industry helps us at times with medication to help us go on with our lives but at the same time I think the fight in Congress (in the U.S.) is to keep increasing the cost of sustaining a life even though that life is not serving a purpose any longer.
If my loved one was suffering to the extent that they begged me to end their life I will admit that it will be almost impossible for me to do that, however, sometimes you have to love someone enough to let them go.

Here we don't have medical bills but still...doctors and hospitals still get their money from the Social Security system.
I had written a thread some time ago about a similar case here in Spain where a 70 year old man had assisted his wife dying of a terminal illness. She had even written a letter confirming that it had been her wish.
But...he was still charged of manslaughtet although he wasn't sent to jail. There was a big controversy issue about it!!
Suffering brings us closer to God. The more suffering the better. I hope my final days are spent in agony. Suffering is a privilege only for the lucky. Suffering Jesus.....

I hope you are being sarcastic (again). If not, good luck with your suffering.
I'd rather my luck come in green dollars or a person to get close to.
I whip myself on the back every day, I whip myself into a frenzy of pain and hallucination and see extraordinary visions before my eyes.....then I go for a coffee.

I think people should be given the choice of ending their lives, with loving assistance in needed, whilst still protecting them from misuse of that law.

Bogart_1960: I supporter euthanasia. (and also physician assisted suicide)
It is my right to choose what I want to do with my life. Even even ending it..
The idea of government or "religious people" making determinations about how to live or end end my life, it is just not acceptable.
Everyone should have the right. It is a personal choice/belief.
btw, is cheaper than jumping from a bridge.
You would need to be lucid and able to walk if you wanted to jump off a bridge. Most people don't have the guts to do that.
On the other hand, if you're frail and in pain to no end laying in bed all you want to do is beg someone give you the dose.
You may think it's your right to do what you want with your life but think about how many laws you have to abide by so that you don't land in jail. The same for me in the U.S. The only rights I have are The Constitution. No where in The Constitution does it say that I can or cannot end my life but the government of my state says I can't. So it looks like they have the power.

"THEY" do? . Not here, those "They" are "us". We put them there and change what we dont want. Our constitutions change too.
Most people dont have the gust to live.
Btw, The constitution does says about what you can do. even change it
