Interesting figures. I guess that means I should take a friend up on his vacant house in Villefranche sur mer for a few weeks this spring. Plus I can then cook for myself from wonderful French markets.

In Paris food goes through the roof. Easily 1500€ a week including drinks. Sometimes double, as the restaurants are so amazing and the bars so much fun. It's hard to separate costs when it is on one bill at the end of the month. I gave up caring long ago.

In Colorado at home, maybe 200€ a week for food. I usually eat alone but have friends over once a week or so. Wine and alcohols add maybe 50€. We have excellent meats here, poor vegetables, fruits and fish. Good wines are available at reasonable prices. Booze is cheap and in big bottles, so I keep a well-stocked bar. Example: Bacardi light rum 2L handle is 20€.

Traveling in the US, all restaurant fare in scenic desert and mountain country, I figure about 700€ a week food and booze, on average. I usually enjoy happy hour and then dine. Bedtime comes early as I'm anxious to get outdoors. In big cities I can spend more, but I rarely visit them.

I agree with Merc and Serene about Australia's food and alcohol costs. In the cities, it's much more expensive than Paris, unless you eat noodles off the street. In fact, everything in Australia is very dear.
