I figured it out when my nephew came along, he was dx'd with autism and he is basically a mini me. I even brought it up with my doctor at the time who seen me since I was born and he agreed. Back in the day, there was so little knowledge about it, people like us often never did get dx'd and usually lived in misery. At least we know now.------ This thread is Archived ------
well, I am teaching chilcren how to play chess, and one day decided to look o the internet how to recognize adhd, autism etc. Well, when I saw what they said about autism, it looked like my own story.
Later I told a friend of mine, a mathstracher, something that happend and how I reacted. He said: I think you have autism, why don't you get yourself tested?
So I went to my doctor, and she didn't agree with me, but arranged a test in a specialized centre. So last spring I went there, and I was positive.
Now I sometimes use it as an excuse when I become angry at people who are irritating me. Like policemen.
Then I can say: Hey sorry, I have autism, I can't help it being like this.
Everything has it's benefits...
