My clippers arrived yesterday. 8 combs for different lengths, right and left blades to attach. I was going to give my self a VERY CLOSE SHAVE but chickened out but neatened myself around the ears and shaved up the back a bit. Well satisfied with first use UNTIL i used second mirror to look at the back 
i have a hole

Well done.I've been cutting my hair myself for years, my style is similar to yours.
I got tired of going to hairdressers and getting butchered
Get yourself a razor comb to trim around your ears and at the back, it will be easier to control than clippers.
Lift your layers up on top with a comb and trim off uneven parts and voila!
It will take some practice but I've often had people ask where I have my done and when I say in my bathroom. .....
