I've been cutting my hair myself for years, my style is similar to yours.
I got tired of going to hairdressers and getting butchered
Get yourself a razor comb to trim around your ears and at the back, it will be easier to control than clippers.
Lift your layers up on top with a comb and trim off uneven parts and voila!
It will take some practice but I've often had people ask where I have my done and when I say in my bathroom. .....

well, since the barber in the Netherland is at least 3 times more expensive than in the UK, 4 times more than in the Czech Republic and 6 times more than in Vietnam, I always get it cut in the summer when on holiday and let it grow for a year.
