tomcatty: What a load of clap trap, there is a poster , who posted on this thread who has many older siblings and she is as sound as a pound.
What make you think people over 56 expect or want to die, believe me they don't.
I know, of course they don't but the chance that they do is bigger. The older you get, the closer to your death.

I thought the baby was supposed to force its way out not drop out like a bungee?

Realistically you're going to need an AI creche and a universal basic income to raise this convenience-sodden mencap society.

If we can have babies till we die why not women as well. Age should come up more for driving and working. At 60 I could still take care of a babies so could a woman we've taken care of yourselfs that long brought up grandkids. But I think when you get to retirement age you shouldn't be allowed to drive anymore. Old people on the road are just accidents waiting to happen.Same with work and forklifts and any machinery.

Reminds me of the older woman who would carry a tampon in her purse and would occasionally let it fall out so she could say "Oh my, I'm so embarrassed. Tee Hee Hee"

germanspitz: Would have been more advantageous if there had been a woman as the Mother though. Money doesn't compensate for everything in life. Just my humble opinion of course.
Lots of Musicians do have children late in life like Merle Haggard who is worth millions.

It is ok with me if they marry younger women and have children when they are 60 and over

tomcatty: Women are having babies older and older. Bearing in mind old age beginsat 56 officially in the UK, is it fair to have children when your elderly, although there are advantages and disadvantages having elderly parents.

I turned 60 yesterday. Can't imagine myself bringing up a toddler right now!
I feel young and well enough to have 'another life' now my kids have their own adult life sorted! Total freedom and not sure who these 'elderly' people you talk about are! laugh

My grandchildren are 17 and 1/2 and 16 from one child and 4 from another...

Thank you

I shared how I felt about myself and late motherhood. But I have friends my age with children the age of my grandchildren...
It all depends of many things...
Also sometimes women in their 50's think they've finished the menopause process but are still fertile in spite of having harly any mentruation to then discover they are pregnant.
My grandmother had a child very late in life when my father was already in his 20's. My uncle is only 8 years older than me and we have children the same age ...
Life has its twists and turns and who are we to judge other people's choices dunno

Is there also someone who thinks about the child? Should a child grow up in a family whose parents are over 50? Will it then become the caregiver of his or her parents? My mother started dementia at the age of 70, I can't imagine that a 20 year old studying daughter or son living at home would get this extra task on his shoulders.

I personally find it selfish to start having children after the age of 50. I was 42 when my youngest daughter came into my life, I adopted her, she was a 5 month old baby. Now I'm 55, and a full time working mother to give her everything she needs. Studying costs a lot of money, and if you have to pay for an upbringing when your retirement approaches, I will ask myself many questions. I don't see a 70 year old parent doing the same tasks as a 50 year old parent when the child is a teenager.

I'm already the "old mom" in the eyes of her schoolfriends.

Just my opinion
