I hear this as a reason someone isn't and wont wear a mask to follow store rules in an attempt to curtail covid spread. Really?!! Seems to me I see signs in stores for years..no shirt, no shoes, no service. ( guess pants are optional ). It is law that one can not walk down a street naked, nor enter a public area like a store or restaurant. And people take no issue with those rules. That is the law, that is social norm so everyone does it. So what the H is the difference with wearing a mask to help public health? Seems an excuse to me to be a contrary. Are they a pain. Yep. Do they work..sure hope so. In the face of this weird virus and the risks, about all that we can do. That and stay out of each others personal space. What is up with that too? " Back off son..ya bother me." Or are you all hard of hearing so you have to stand on top of me? Politeness is you try to oblige a request that is reasonable. Unless you are a self centered pr*ck.
There is evidence that wearing a mask can reduce the transmission of the virus. “It’s really a perfectly good public health intervention that’s not used,” argues KK Cheng, a public health expert at the University of Birmingham. “It’s not to protect yourself. It’s to protect people against the droplets coming out of your respiratory tract.”. Especially by those infected but not showing any symptoms.
So over 2 million infections & still spiking..Near 130,000 deaths & still spiking..These are bloody real people who have bloody died.. DUH!~
FFS...Throw a bloody mask on when out & about..Kids as well as adults who have had radiation treatment or some other medical treatment deserve the luxury of walking in the park or being able to walk into a shop with full protection from passer byes...It's all about I look after you & you look after me.
Or better still if it's that much of a vanity thing for you stay at bloody home!~

I will wear a mask where required, it prevents contamination of others, and perhaps in the long run yourelf.
These are people men , women, children etc you are protecting, don't put others at risk when you throw your toys out of the pram.
Contrary to the laws of social niceness I expect real world behaviour to become more like online behaviour in an era of masks. That person there is less of a person. With this mask-wearing we become like the faceless hive of Asia.
Sadly a large number of Americans have a memory span shorter than their attention span, on average around 3 minutes. And then it is selective distorted memories that they remember
Spare a thought for deaf people during this time. There are estimated to be about 9 million deaf and hard of hearing adults in the UK alone, that is about 18% of the total population. About 640,000 of these are profoundly or severely deaf who mainly rely on lipreading to be able to communicate.

Good point The alternative is to wear the clear face shields.

So at least they can commuinicate with masks on.
Seems that's not entirely the case.....
Karen Robson, of Action on Hearing Loss, said: "We're hearing a lot of concerns from the deaf community and those with hearing loss.
"Many people who are deaf or have hearing loss rely heavily on visual cues for effective communication, including facial expressions and lip-reading.
"Being able to see lip patterns and facial expressions is also vital for those who communicate through British Sign Language."
Words which sound similar but have different meanings can become difficult to distinguish.
"Many of these people will be unavoidably impeded by face coverings," Ms Robson said.
"This has the potential to create further isolation amongst an already marginalised community of people, causing additional stress and anxiety to people at an already very difficult time."

Well the posters above seem to have come out with some solutions. i won't argue the toss with you, but I think deafness should be recognised as a real disability, and it's no good shouting at them, deafness is not daftnes, they are probably smarter than you
