Boris Johnson has announced a new “one-metre plus” social distancing rule in England in his latest easing of the coronavirus lockdown.
Speaking in the House of Commons on Tuesday, the prime minister said cutting the distance from two metres will allow the stricken hospitality sector to start reopening.
Johnson said that “where it is possible to keep two metres apart, people should. But where it is not, we will advise people to keep a social distance of one metre plus, meaning they should remain one metre apart while taking mitigations to reduce the risk of transmission.”
He subsequently confirmed pubs, restaurants, hotels, cinemas and hairdressers can reopen from 4 July providing they are “COVID-secure”. Boris Johnson announced the latest easing of the lockdown on Tuesday. (Parliamentlive.tv)

Is it too soon?????
I would be inclined to suggest the answer lies with the 42,000 dead.
All depends on the public and how responsible they are, I can foresee pubs bulging at the seams and being closed as quickly as they opened, but it does appear to be a move in the right direction. All a bit of a waiting game I guess.

I do not believe in the destruction of the country's young life without vital reason. Obviously society has moved on since the days of the Somme, but not actually that much certainly not as much as I once believed. I welcome this shift to oppose the war.

You do realise that the main reason the lockdown has been in place is due to the irresponsible actions done by the youth/young of the UK! Just take a walk downtown Manchester and check the ages of those walking around window shopping, check when the pubs open, the age groups that will flood the pub gardens. ALL YOUR GENERATION, So blaming those over 45 is neither constructive nor correct.
I know I'll get slaughtered for saying this but hell! who cares. I've said it before and I'll say it again. I'm very proud of Spain and what we've achieved. We've had one of the strictest lock downs in the World. I'm not going into it all now as it was depressing at the time and too much to type lol.....Our bars have been open for over 2 weeks now, obviously with only 30% capacity and social distancing and only on the open terrace. No clients allowed in the bars only to use the toilets where you have to sanitise your hands going in and coming out. I doubt whether the people of Spain (apart from a few) will want to disrespect the rules as our PM won't think twice about putting us back down into the strict lock down if we start to spike and we don't want that again. We still have our Guardia patrolling the streets to make sure we are adhering to the rules. The same with the beaches, not allowed on them if there are too many people. I'm happy with the things that are going on now. At least we've got a bit of freedom at last and it's worked for the people of Spain

Good for you, my son, daughter in law and grandsons live in Spain, permanently, I wish you and them well, but you can't beat a real English pub

well, it's the same in the Netherlands. Tonight the ease-down rules will be made public by our prime minister. On the 1st of sept. the footballcompetition also will start, but people in the stadions must hold 1.5m social distance. And they ain't allowed to sing or shout or yell.
