I don't take it lightly to break someone's heart.
When my daughter went to her high school prom I told her that if the boy wanted to see her again, but she didn't want to see him, she should remember that he has feelings and she should make sure she is polite and kind when she rejects his request to see her again. I'm pretty sure she followed that advice.
I did the same thing when I was casually dating men that I didn't want to see again.
The hardest one to break was my alcoholic husband that lead to a divorce.
