Is it possible to re-glue, replace the rubber or will we have to buy new? Any experts out there?
It is a GE and now 15 years old

im betting you can get a new gasket—go to local appliance or hardware store. Did you know some refrigerators seem to last 4-ever? There are even ones with that motor on top still working like a top.

This is a tough one, Jen.

You really have three options.

1. Replace the gasket. This will be tough as finding the schematic to get a viable part number is not easy, even on the internet. You will need the model number off the tag on the back, then search that and “door gasket”. Finding a parts place is much easier these days. Prices vary widely based on manufacturers, model and overall size.

2. Glue this one. In which case I’d suggest thermal gasket paste, from Amazon or other online retailer. The key is the temperature range that it covers. I have some that goes from -30F to 700F (used on my 3D printer head). It’s a silicon paste that you use to make custom gaskets. Might also find it at an auto parts shop. About $6-9

3. Replace it. Which is the most pricey, but it’s new, energy efficient and comes with a warranty.

The repairs are not difficult.

Thank you Stan wow . I have been able a few times to move the refrigerator out, not easy to do.
I could do it again, to get the info.
Looked for new and so many have the freezer on the bottom, we had one and pronto brought it back.
As I told Rohaan Cor is sick again so it is all up to me.
Got some thinking to do here.............wave

Do you have a local Craigslist? I find deals there all the time. My current fridge was $20, it’s been doing fine for 2 years. It has a broken shelf guard, but otherwise works great and it freezes ice cream rock hard.

To calculate cubic feet. If measurements are in inches.

Width x depth x height / 12

Ok, I messed up that equation!!

W/ / 12
D /12
H. / 12

Then W x D x H

If the rubber is still in tact then yes, you can glue it back on no bother...just give it a clean, make sure all the old glue is cleaned of the door and glue the seal back onto the door..but take your time and try to refit where the old one was..you'll probably still be able to see it's tracks and can use that as a guide..if not, get a ruler and draw a straight line down with a pencil or marker....and follow that line...

make sure it's the correct glue for rubber (assuming it is rubber) and whatever your fridge door is made of......

If the rubber seal has deteriorated, dried out and is crumbling, falling apart then no, you'll have to get a new seal....

P.S, if you use a fast drying glue, do not let your bare skin hands/fingers near it...that stuff glues hard in seconds...so wear some sort of gloves just in case...

I hope this helps ::)

I can not see how you can get an accurate measurement for this seal as it has to be 100 % right

No Craighlist but do have places were people buy and sell. looked there but nothing I wanted
On the blogs a man gave me the address of where by just giving your model number they would be able to give you the right gasket.
I send it in and I was told it was the wrong number. I had found that number in two places.
Today decided to buy a new fridge........$695.00 at Costco. no other cost and even have 90 days to return if your not happy...............wave

As an appliance repair man replacing the gasket is the way to go. Gluing will most likely not work and make a big mess. Ge does have some refrigerators that have gaskets that just press in. If yours is that type perhaps it just need to be pressed back in. If the gasket is torn then replacement is necessary.
If it's the press in kind then you can probably replace it yourself. But if it's not the press in type then having it done by an appliance repair guy would be recommended.
It's also possible GE doesn't offer a replacement anymore.

Thank you for this info BigJ
Because the model number I had copied from two different places , yet was told it was wrong.
Anyway did order this morning a new fridge, smaller than what we have now but that is just fine
