germanspitz: If you cannot be kind then please don't be cruel.
As tempting as it is to be “ honest”, (funny how abusive people use this to be deliberately mean..), there’s a saying about it being best to be quiet, something ending in ‘is the better part..” but I really strive to not misquote.
Got small cat tree, he is “looking it over”. He hasn’t used the scratch posts, but is walking around it , rubbing his side back and forth...

Great news Ro. As I said before cats adore the smell of catnip for some reason. It's a herb and you could sprinkle just a small amount on the post and rub it in.

Bet he's getting big bless him.
thanx! We have a wonderful store here called “Mini-PetMart.” * There’s actually another one next town over. They actually have EVERYTHING. Going to stop by and get catnip today...yes, he’s about 1.25 lbs, so a little bigger. He’s 9 weeks old; I’ve had him for 3 weeks now. How time flies!
*is it ok to mention a brand /trademark on here? It seems like a member talked about that a year or two ago..

I would not like to make a list of "how kind I am to others"... for me it's like bragging about being "generous" ...
But ...
I have many a time in my life received kindness and generosity from family, friends, colleagues, civil servants, strangers. In gratitude for the beauty of human nature
In some ways kindness can be called an art, that is, something that needs to be cultivated by practice and determination.
Kindness, or 'loving kindness' to be more precise, is central to Buddhist teachings and features highly in any Buddhist's daily practise. The meditation used for this is called Metta Bhavana meditation, which simply means compassion cultivating meditation. The use of the word 'cultivating' is significant because the practice can take months or even years to master, but the rewards are great. Many people feel they should only show kindness to those who deserve it, or earned it. Whilst this form of selective kindness could be called a virtuous act, it's quite different to perfecting a mind of loving kindness in the Buddhist sense. The mind of living kindness loves all living beings without exception and is reserved for the very few who can develop it. However, this doesn't mean practising loving kindness is only for the few. Any amount of focusing on "the art of kindness," to quote the OP, will benefit yourself and those around you in quite a short time.
This young lady can explain it much better than me....

I agree with all the above.. Without practising any kind of religion whatsoever.
I would add..it's an act of compassion, showing you care for ALL living beings, without any condition nor discrimination.

The film "pay it forward" comes to mind.
I understand what you're saying but these teachings are not so much a religion, more a philosophy that can stand on its own without any religious beliefs. Buddah said on many occasions in his teachings, do not take my word for what I'm saying. Test it for yourself, see if it works for you, I can only advise you.

I do agree with this kind of philosophy, Bod
Why I mentioned religion is because many feel that "only religious people" are kind and can do favours from the heart..without expecting anything in return.
That's my philosophy too! And also, to be "detached" from the results.
This is why I cannot answer the questions asked by the OP.
By doing so would mean that I AM attached to the results of my acts of kindness.

Lee, IMHO..if you're a kind person and perform acts of kindness and good deeds, there is no need to advertise for it!
We learn to do this WITHOUT ATTACHMENTS TO THE RESULTS.
Therefore, making a list of all the acts of kindness we have done during the course of our life would mean that we are still ATTACHED to it and giving it some energy.

I posted a blog with the exact same tittle of this thread, like a year ago... I honestly believe kindness is contagious and I wanted to "spread a little bit of it" by sharing that particular day of my life... But, I have to confess I am always the "anonymous" donator or benefactor... I don't like my left hand to know what my right hand does... I just let my heart guide my actions and help anyone I can, whenever I can, wherever I am...
