Women do seem to have self-preservation ‘defenses’. And, giving compliments puts them in an arguably vulnerable position, at least for some, some of the time. The “ world” as it were, demands much ( VERY MUCH) from its women, yet pales in fair recognition. ( in my opinion, women must work harder, longer, and more diligently for the same benevolent equity that seems to come more easily for men. So, perhaps it is a bulwark of strength for them to be conservative in their complimentary gifts. Jmo
