Acording to the great God Goggle,, the following is what Scientology is.
Since its inception in 1954, the Church of Scientology has been involved in a number of controversies, including its stance on psychiatry, Scientology's legitimacy as a religion, the Church's aggressive attitude in dealing with its perceived enemies and critics, allegations of mistreatment of members, and predatory ... So it's not a very old religion, but I have read quite a few famous people have or do belong to it, including Tom Cruise.

Yes, I do know the history of it, Tom. Only I came across it a while ago as many people who were Scientologists have come out and told their stories.
It is not a religion, but a CULT! People who join don´t even know what it´s all about until they reach a high level.
As for Tom Cruise, well... he has been brainwashed so much that he will never leave. Besides, he gets away with a lot because of all the money he has given to the church.

Actors are the embodiment of vanity without pride. A repulsive need to be more than human anything but yourself. Part of that is to feel that I know something and you don't know that something. Narcissism finds itself in an esoteric cult of actors.
Sorry Tom, I wasn´t scolding you at all, on the contrary! I am very grateful for your comment as I couldn´t be bothered to write the whole description of it.
First time I heard of it was Tom Cruise speaking about it . There is centre not far from where I live no expense spared building it .they encourage people to use it like a community centre for different events and groups and have regular open days.
Only other time I seen anything about it was when on holiday in New York and they had a centre beside our hotel lady standing outside all day inviting people in.

AI_1984: Has anyone heard of it, or knows someone who is - or was - into Scientology?
If so, what are your thoughts about it?
Have you ever met a "Recruiter" - on this site, or other?
Please discuss.....
They have a big headquarters in Clearwater, FL. Anyone on the site that can give an idea of how recruiting is done there???
I'd like to have about 1/10 of a percentage of the money that group finagles out of their zombies, I mean, members....... Even with that amount, I could buy a home with a big backyard and still have oodles left over for my kids post secondary schooling.......

For the record, I’m neither acclaiming or condemning - but in all fairness as I state in my profile I do not embrace organized religion. And, to quote my late brother, “ everyone has the right to be misled”. given that, I do believe that we need to be acutely aware of cult mentality. Consider many mainstream branches of Christianity- some believe that repeating certain phrases over and over “ helps”, or wearing specific amulets/ medallions/ miniature icons “helps”, etc...In short, it is all a form of pageantry, where the patrons believe that doing or saying certain things causes results...Scientology actually APPEARS to have sound baselines, such as recognizing one’s own value and purpose. It is after enticing novices ( who doesn’t want to think he or she is marvelous and wonderful?) that the administrative parameters “crowd”, but by then the novice is initiated and detaching becomes psychologically compromised. In all fairness, other cult/ cult-type organizations do this, as well. My advice? Go ahead and use your own brain cells. That’s what they’re there for

You´re right Chris!
Tom Cruise is a good example of it. It will charm you to the moon and back with his charismatic smile.

Thanks Tara. I know a guy in Fla who lives near Clearwater. Actually, he would make a perfect candidate, apart from the fact that he hasn´t got any money.
I think they recruit by seeking out the lonely and gullible. Also, those from other religions.
But, I DO know that some also join dating sites for the same purpose.

Thanks for your view on this. But....as for people using their "own brain cells", well, those who are lonely and lacking a sense of purpose, are easy prey for those with a good story line and a convincing attitude. This is not only the approach of any religion, or cult, but also political organisations.
As for Scientology, many who have left and now tell their story, they say that the main attraction was this promise of comradeship, and doing good work for humanity and the planet. And that´s a big attraction for many!
