"Go placidly amid the noise and the haste, and remember what peace there may be in silence. As far as possible, without surrender, be on good terms with all persons. Speak your truth quietly and clearly; and listen to others, even to the dull and the ignorant; they too have their story. Avoid loud and aggressive persons; they are vexatious to the spirit. If you compare yourself with others, you may become vain or bitter, for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself. Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans. Keep interested in your own career, however humble; it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time. Exercise caution in your business affairs, for the world is full of trickery. But let this not blind you to what virtue there is; many persons strive for high ideals, and everywhere life is full of heroism. Be yourself. Especially do not feign affection. Neither be cynical about love; for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment it is as perennial as the grass. Take kindly the counsel of the years, gracefully surrendering the things of youth. Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune. But do not distress yourself with dark imaginings. Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness. Beyond a wholesome discipline, be gentle with yourself. You are a child of the universe no less than the trees and the stars; you have a right to be here. And whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should. Therefore be at peace with God, whatever you conceive Him to be. And whatever your labors and aspirations, in the noisy confusion of life, keep peace in your soul. With all its sham, drudgery and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world. Be cheerful. Strive to be happy."

Wow..! Very nice but... How many do you think live up to those standards?
Yes, it is a beautiful world and we are creators of our own life. So we should enjoy it to the full, and make the best of it.

Such a wonderfully structured piece of prose that is so worth the read .
Somehow I feel the content may be lost to some people set in their own ideology and mindset.

I think real wisdom resonates with all, even to those who want to deny it. it is one of those things which is self-evident. We must not give in to cynicism. Cynicism is a quintessential human trait - animals don't possess it. Animals simply accept life as it is with the dignity that we can only hope to achieve. Homo Sapien is the only genre that voluntarily chooses suicide - the conclusion to pessimism. I have never seen a cow kill itself.

It is important to come from a place of love and tolerance though, not aggression. Put our fears to rest and develop a positive attitude and we'll reap richer rewards.

Such wise powerful words yet expressed with such gentleness. Thank you for sharing them here with us

The closest relation to human society - the insect colony - can and does commit suicide. The queen becomes corrupted and the hive is doomed thereafter, it will annihilate itself through wrong thinking.

I think you are right, but people of a different mindset will never change, someone asked me today, if i thought animals worried about mortity,
I have come to the conclusion that they don't as they have co coneption of dying.

True! But I have seen dolphins and orcas killing themselves when kept in captivity.
And yet suicide was almost unknown amongst the hunter gatherers. Suicide comes in with agriculture and intensifies at the height of human society - the city. It is the city that most resembles the insect colony it is the advancement and integration itself that spurs the suicide.

I have had many animals through my life and I have to disagree. Although their conception of dying is not as strong as a human they do seem to be aware. My last dog had diabetes and became quite poorly so another trip to the vet's was needed. Whilst on the table and under discussion Daisy turned round and stuck her head in my armpit and I instinctively knew that she had had enough so chose to put her out of her misery.. It broke my heart to do it but she had gone beyond her illness and was suffering.
If you know your pet well enough you can read the signs .

Well I don't know about telepathic animals, my jury is still out on that one, and an animal has the same fight or flight reactions as a human.
I was thinking nore along the lines of the animal thinking about death as a concetion, i beleve they don't think to deeply on it, they just die.

Animals are better at telepathic communication than we humans are, because it is their first and primary language. It's how they communicate with each other. So we can learn from them by paying attention to how they hear and understand us.

And by the same token you don't see so much suicide in the far east kamikaze aside. They have developed to defend themselves from western society's advance but I do not detect that wannabe soul that we have. Almost like it has been ordered to be ambitious as opposed to driven by a sense of inadequacy. In spite of careers family remains the focus of society the feeling of being part of the group.
What we are is smallest cogs in the largest machine in world history. The white man built that machine because he sees no limit only a boundless horizon on which to expand his creation. And yet it is the yellow man that will inherit and be most content with the swarm life that necessarily ensues.
