I do not know much if anything about American politics but I was just wondering:- What do you all think Donald Trump's position would have been had Covid-19 not happened? i.o.w. What do you think America would have been like today were it not for the virus? and Would the American people have been please with his presidency?

Hard to say. What we can say is that he made a mess of it, by not taking it seriously sooner. He said that he felt great and that getting the virus was a 'gift from god' for him. Imagine how the families of the two hundred thousands who died thought about that? Imagine their feelings about him going around without a mask, putting people around him at risk and all because of vanity and lack of concern for others.

Having said that I don't envy the liberals I only implore to consider what happens the day after the revolution. If Trump loses Biden will come to power just as all the covid swerving measures begin to bite, the social and economic ruin with the collapse of mental health. Hindsight will likely regard the Trump years as being the best years in 20 unless the liberals come up with something magic. But I don't think so. Liberals are a mask without a face look beyond the cover and theres nothing there at all.

Trumps problem is that regardless of what he does - good, bad, evil - he follows it up with a statement ot tweet. Any respect anyone could have for him is gone and he makes himself a joke for late night tv.
Maybe he should've gotten rid of all his kids in senior positions and put people who actually knew what they were doing in their places.
Let's wait and see....

The pandemic didn't make him an inappropriate choice.

He would have been a self-serving, day time TV entertainer who was over his head, virus, or no virus.

He was showing signs of dangerousness and a desire to breach constitutional law before covid-19.

It's difficult to say what might have happened without the pandemic, but I suspect he might have found any number of ways of bringing about chaos, disharmony and hardship to the US citizens.

if he could curb his stupid name calling and really infantile behaviour and actually focus on the job he might actually have been a better potus than his predeccessors..but he's a walking personality disorder....

And his management of the pandemic has been absolutely appalling...

He's not getting a second term. There's no way he's getting back in...

I Just hope Biden doesn't kick the wars off again...

The Way DT mishandled the virus. And it has brought out the best in him. His rudeness, lack of empathy, lying, arrogance, disrespectful to people and the laws, divisive politics, not condemning the killing of innocent black citizens etc.
Without Covid he was almost certain to win the second term. If Republican had picked a better candidate, younger and more dynamic personality if possible then DT would have lost this election for sure. Chances are he probably will still lose this election and deservedly so.
However, will come as a no surprise to me if he wins. sigh

Something that DT said during the Final Presidential Debate relating to Covid-19 really stood out for me viz." THE CURE CANNOT BE WORSE THAN THE PROBLEM ITSELF " now this could either be the most brilliant thing that he has ever said or the most stupid. I think his reasoning is based on the fact that countries elsewhere in the world are applying the strictest lockdown measures but still the pandemic is unending ; that the US economy is too 'massive' to lockdown ; and that we cannot live in fear of this virus but must tackle it head on. As far as this is concerned time alone will tell and this might be the one thing that will determine how he will be remembered in perpetuity.

"THE CURE CANNOT BE WORSE THAN THE PROBLEM ITSELF"

My interpretation of that sentence, is that Trump views a shutdown and consequential loss of revenue from his many corporations directly impacting his bottom line, is of far greater importance to him than the health of the "unwashed masses" ie the American people.
Getting back to your original question, you only have to look back at his first year in the WH before this pandemic hit, to see that he was demonstrating exactly the behavior I predict, that he is more concerned about the financial success of his businesses than the welfare of the population.

I understand this and you are probably correct, the question however was what would the perception of DT, by the broader American electorate have been, had the pandemic not occurred? And with regard to the statement he made In RSA we have been on Lockdown Level 5 came down to Level 1 and all indications are that we will go back up to a higher lockdown level imminently and this has also been the case in Europe, Asia and Australasia.
On face value this statement is totally outrageous and egregious but given the severity of this virus could he possibly be onto something ? I think not, but time alone will tell. It was just a very odd thing to say.

thats a take on it, as well. I guess we’ll never know, but it’s very possible you’re correct. I, personally find it APPALLING to the nth degree that some people just don’t, or won’t, see the chaos. It’s like, they don’t “ get” it? Seriously, they’re going to support this? With all the facts and commentary full- frontal?help

Considering what UK and EU leaders are doing to their countries in so many different ways the simple fact is that DT is a great president. This will be proven if and when Biden and Kamala win through fraud which is the only way they can get elected... a pretty sad day in history for the world and you can kiss freedom of speech goodbye. Sleepy Joe will be lucky if can survive a full term and that's why he was picked so extremely corrupt socialists and communists can sneak in with connections to China and Russia.
