pedro27: i think i might know, its about been honest and not cheating on the score card.....
That is certainly part of golf being a metaphor. As an aside, did you know that it is a FACT (I know people that played with him when he was a real estate con man in NY) that Donald Trump cheats at golf? He used the "foot wedge" on several occasions. That told me, thirty plus years ago, everything I needed to know about the man.
Anyway, my friend Bert and I were playing a really difficult course out in Montauk called "Montauk Downs." It's a state course designed by the same person who designed Bethpage (where several U.S. Opens have been held)
I never played the course before and I hit a really crappy drive WAY right . I turned to Bert and asked him, "how much trouble is over there?" He said, "it's no trouble at all" and tossed me a ball from my bag.
What he was saying is that there are some things there are no recovery from. Just take your medicine and move on.
